We saw Obama speak!!

On a rainy Saturday morning, in the same location where countless games have been won and lost, where the Michigan Fight Song echos through the bleachers, and where Halley Peters once snuck in Natty Light, shotgunned said Natty Light, and then threw the empty cans at innocent passers-by, our President, Barack Obama, spoke and I listened.

It was epic.

BUT WE MISSED YOU! Not the same without our Gibson.

It's been TOO long since I've posted. Almost a MONTH!

Spring is here in Michigan!!

It's gorgeous. It's sunny. I have had a headache for like TWO WEEKS STRAIGHT because of all this damn pollen in the air.

Anyways, life is progressing over here. Eric and I are planning our trip out to LA/SD for memorial day weekend. His cousin is getting married, so we're going to go and have a mini-vacation as well!! Eek! I'm so excited. I've already bought a new dress to wear to the wedding (black one shoulder maxi dress by Rachel Pally it's gorg and you'll love it i'll post pics as soon as i receive it in le mail.)

Eric just got home from attending the Material Resource Society's conference in San Francisco. And while he was there he borrowed his friend's scooter and scooted around town:

OH YEA AND BUYING A BEAUTIFUL LOUIS VUITTON NOE BAG. She's vintage and gorgeous and I love her. I went into Four Seasons today because they're closing (oh yea! Four Seasons is closing.) so they're having a 70% off storewide sale. I wanted a new bra and the saleslady stalked me like crazy, threw 3987234095 bras in my dressing room, and kept complimenting my bag. I'm pretty sure she thought I was loaded cuz of my Louis. Does that happen to you??

Do you remember that computer program Mario Teaches Typing? That game was awesome. Well, I guess it wasn't a game. More like a teaching tool. Definitely worked, cuz I'm a STELLAR typist.

I'm totally obsessed with the show Alias again. It's the best. We'll have another marathon when you come home.

The new season of The Real Housewives of New York City started last night. Too much dramz, we'll just have to have a marathon of that when you get home too.

So we've established that you're awesome. I recently fell in love with a little part of you known as Corktown. I kind of want to move there and live there. Even Hour Magazine did a little profile about how cool your Corktown is. Lots of great Irish Heritage. Civil War veterans lived there. Wayne State students actually excavated some land over there and found lots of relics from early Irish settlers. HOW COOL IS THAT?! WAY COOL. I'm totally into it.

Other reasons for my loving thee:

-Great opera house

-Great art museum.

-Great little ice skating rink for couples young and old to a-skate around in on Valentine's Day.

I know I already posted these pictures. But we're skating! In Detroit! And I think they're really cute.

Detroit! You have amazing history. I went on a tour of your Motown Museum last weekend and was SO blown AWAY! It was amazing!! I didn't realize that so many huge Motown stars were from Detroit...The Four Tops, The Supremes, The Temptations...so many. Stevie Wonder! Stevie Wonder is from Saginaw! I ever knew that.

Gibby! Gabby! What's up.

Lots to catch you up on.

First things first, The Row show was a couple days ago. And it was AMAZING. MK and A said they were going for something "utterly simple and anonymously chic." Well, they succeeded. Honestly, I would wear every single piece in this collection. Of course, it helps that the only colors they used were black, navy, and white. Yum.

Isn't this just some of the greatest fashion you've seen in a long time? Simple, timeless, completely chic, and totally wearable. And I would kill another human (maybe. and preferable someone who was really mean.) to own that last dress.

Ok, on to Valentine's Day! Eric and I went ice skating at Campus Martius in Detroit, which is basically on Woodward Ave. And they had something called a Winter Blast going on, which was basically a fair in the winter. Kiddie rides, elephant ears. Outside. In February. Oh Detroit, how you amuse me so.

The store next door looks like it has buckets of cool stuff. Too bad it's ALWAYS CLOSED whenever we go there.

A couple more things:

OH! I special ordered a watch from LaMer Collections. We have carried her watches at Poshh for, like, six years. And I've been working there for four. And I've finally come around to ordering one of her signature wrap watches. I really wanted a matte navy leather, which she doesn't normally do, but she found me some on a leather buying trip and made me a special one. I love it.

Isn't she beautiful?

And also, you know how I lost the stone from that amazing ram head ring I found when we were at Star Vintage? Well, after months of wearing it without the stone and people saying things along the lines of "Oh cool ringgg....is there a stone missing" I have finally solved the no stone problem!

I filled it in. With black glue. Isn't that just about the most ghetto thing you've ever heard? But it looks awesome, kind of like onyx, and fits perfectly in the hole, since it's so oddly shaped, and I would have never found a stone that exact size without getting something specially made. I'm very happy and have been wearing it constantly.

Yesterday Eric and I watched part of Clueless. In the scene where Cher gets mugged we had a conversation that went like this:

M: *Hesitation* Um...if you believe that designers can be important, yes Azzedine Alaia is a very important designer.

E: Really?

M *Sigh* Just watch.

I'm glad he lives on planet science/football and I live on another planet known as planet Maggie where I only know who Tiki Barber is because he was on an episode of Project Runway and watched the Superbowl for lots of reasons, one of them being so I could try to spot Kim Kardashian in the crowd. It keeps things very interesting.

THE WINTER OLYMPICS!

They started today. Right now I'm watching some ice luging. Looks terrifying. I would be much more inclined to be on a bobsled team. Much more protection from that bobsled. Those luges are basically little gurneys! Ick.

AND IT'S FASHION WEEK! WHOOT WHOOOOT!

I've been having a love affair with Helmut Lang ever since my mom bought me the most fabulous boyfriend blazer by him a couple months ago. I'll have to do more outfit posts for you. I have so many new pieces and you don't know about them! Tear. (I've started taking pictures of pieces and emailing them to Eric to get his opinion on whether I should buy or not. He has great taste, but it's not the same. Shhh, don't tell him.)

Isn't this look amazing! I LOVE the scarf belted under the blazer. I am so doing that, like, tomorrow. And if you look closely, you can see she is rocking A BOLO TIE. I almost died. I called Eric right away and told him just how fashionable he and his bolo tie are. All the looks included a bolo tie. Amazing. I am so stealing Eric's and wearing it pronto. But I'm not crazy about buttoned up all the way shirts on me, so I'll have to figure something out that's even more ridic. I'm thinking a turtle neck/blazer/bolo tie situation. Thoughts?

And our fav mini-gay showed at fashion week this week--Christian Siriano. Girlfriend shut it down. The sunglasses were fabulous--totally spot on in terms of what looks fashionable right now, and I loved the forties hair/lipstick. So ladylike. Makes me want to dress more like a lady. His girls ended up looking more like 40's secretaries from the future. Case in point:

I think I might need that jacket. Cuz it's leather. AND I LOVE LEATHER. I'm Stella, and I LOVE leather. I love to stud it, dye it, rip it--I LOVE IT.

It SNOWED.

A lot. Not as much as on the East Coast, but still. (I think DC got like 18 inches. We might want to check on Asa to make sure he's still alive and not buried in a snow bank somewhere.) So while you're sweating away over there, we are trudging through piles of already gray snow. And of course it's not enough to have anything cancelled. But enough for it to be a hassle.

Although it is quite beautiful. At least at first. Wish you were here so we could go sledding!

I bought a new coat! TJ Maxx. Kenneth Cole. Wool/Cashmere blend. 40 bucks. WOOHOO! It has a ridiculously big collar, and I love it.

So now for the really sad, sad news. Alexander McQueen died yesterday. So very tragic. What he did in his life was so beautiful and new and brave. His Spring RTW 2010 was one of my absolute favorites. A true legend has died and the loss not just the fashion world, but the whole world, will suffer is devastating. He was truly a genius.

PUPPY BOWL 2010!!!

I haven't posted in a bit. I'm sorry.

I have three tests this week. I had one Monday night, one today, and one due on VALENTINE'S DAY. For my stupid internet whatever class. Blurg.

Anyways...Sunday was the SUPER BOWL! Also known as the Puppy Bowl. I watched the whole thing and only saw Kim Kardashian in the crowd once. :(

I am just fascinated by these two. But Reggie had some great plays. (I actually watched the game. We only switched to Puppy Bowl twice. But don't worry, I watched the Kitten Halftime Show later online.)

Oh yea, and the Saints won the Super Bowl. It was actually a great game to watch! They were down by 10 at the beginning, then came back and won 31-17. I also ate a TON of wings. And pizza. And some other stuff. We made waaay too much food for two people. AND WE MISSED YOU!

ALL I keep going is thinking about summer. Well, more specifically, what I want to wear this summer. I can't stop thinking about two particular movies, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and Revolutionary Road, and wanting to channel Gwyneth and Kate in those two movies, respectively, so badly it HURTS.

Ok, what did I do today. Stayed in bed til about 10:30. Ate pizza with Eric for breakfast. Went to gym. I mean, just for a bit. Napped on couch. Watched a CSI marathon (MY NEW OBSESSION. IT'S SO BAD IT'S GOOD.) Filled out my FAFSA stuff for school! Oh yea, Eastern is letting me in to their Music Therapy program! Hazzah!!! I'm super excited. So I'm starting in the fall. :) My day was awesome. But I feel another nap coming on.

It was purple and adorable. George Stephanopolous seemed to think every was wearing purple to be "bi-partisan" and I think that George Stephanopolous pretty much just outed himself.

St. Valentine's Day is rapidly approaching (I can't believe it's February! ACK!) and I do believe Eric and I are going to go to the Detroit Science Center and have a day of fun. That's my plan anyways.

Here's some new news:

Reggie promised Kim he would propose if the Saints won the Superbowl. I find this news hilarious. Why? Because, the way I read it, Kim "got Reggie to agree to pop the question."

I'm sorry, but I would NEVER want to have to get my boyfriend to agree to intend to marry me. Nope. Not for me. Would rather keep my dignity and stay single. (Sorry Kim, you know I love you.)

Anyways, I'll be rooting for the Saints this upcoming Superbowl Sunday. Just cuz I love the good dramz and once Kim gets a huge rock on that finger maybe she'll stop complaining about how her sister's are all married and preggs and she's not.

Crazy Heart was magnificent. The music was incredible and the acting was great and visually it was pleasing and interesting and I just loved it. I saw it with Emily and Sean the night it opened at the Michigan Theater, but told Eric I'd see it again with him because he wants to see it too. THAT'S how much I loved it. There's only one other movie I've seen twice in the theaters. And that's The Bourne Ultimatum. So, needless to say, 'twas good.

Yea...Conan got the boot. It felt pretty unfair. Leno wants his late night show spot back or whatever, Conan's ratings weren't where NBC wanted them to be, blah blah blah I don't really care about late night talk shows, because if I'm up late watching TV, you KNOW it's because of a Law & Order MARATHON. BUT I do like Conan. I think he's funny and cute and the good Lord knows I like them tall. SO, now I REALLy will never watch late night TV. TAKE THAT NBC.

Lil J isn't in rehab yet. YET. Girlfriend is THIN. Hopefully she eats something soon.

Here is an update on what's been going on over here:

Eric and I had a special celebration weekend. We both took the weekend off and Eric only worked 10 minutes the ENTIRE WEEKEND! And we actually did some fun things. Here are some pictures:

I'm in a Yeats-ian kind of mood today. Aren't you? It's cold and Yeats' poetry just kind of wraps around me like that big cashmere blanket that my parents have in their house and keep draped over the back of the couch. I read this poem today and decided I liked it and then I decided to share it. About every six months or so I remember how much I deeply love Yeats' poetry, how much the language, regardless of the meaning, resonates somewhere deep inside me, and how much I look fondly back on the memories of my mom reciting his poetry to me in the car and around the house.

Guess what else I've been doing? READING OLD NANCY DREW BOOKS! Yep, that's right. I'm rekindling my

platonic love affair with Nancy. I just think they are so amazing in their predictability. Bess is always in a huff

about something. Or eating an ice cream sundae. George is always sporty, Hannah always nurturing. Mr. Drew,

the "well-known lawyer" is always doing something noble and of course so is Nancy.

So I checked a bunch of these books out from the library yesterday. I've already made it through The Clue in

the Diary and halfway through The Crooked Banister. And will you look at the cover of The Crooked Banister?:

There's a robot on that cover! Amazing. We all know how much I positively adore robots. Too bad the top half is hidden by that silly sticker the AADL is probably "required" or whatever to put on there. Robot face or not, it's a fabulous read and I highly recommend it.

Notice I'm rocking pale blue/grey nail polish. Pale nail polishes are back in. Jade green nail polish is also in. And so is taupe. So don't be freaked out when you get home. I'm sensing this trend will continue through the spring. (Although I hope neon nail polish is in again this summer. I would get so excited when my neon yellow nails would match my tennis balls.)

Ok, now on to celebrity news you might be interested in....hmm....Jeff Bridges won the Golden Globe as Best Actor in a Drama or whatever for his role in this new movie Crazy Heart. It opens at the Michigan Theater tonight so I'm going. In like 25 minutes. So I'll let you know how good it REALLY is. (Although I heard it's AMAZING.)

Taylor Momsen (Little J, just in case you forgot) refused to go to some Haiti Earthquake Relief charity thing. Apparently she said she had more important things to do, like buy eyeliner, not eat, and work on her "album."

Robert Pattinson grew a beard. 15 million tweenagers peed their pants.

Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush got back together. Thank GOODNESS cuz I was getting sick of her complaining about how she wasn't married and isn't pregnant every Sunday night.

Chris Brown got his picture taken next to some guy (Jean Paul Gautier) who had a black eye (fake, for his show) and everybody laughed and laaaauuughed.

Conan got fired from the tonight show. The re-hired Jay Leno. And NOBODY CARED.

Heidi Montag got a RIDICULOUS amount of plastic surgery. And NOBODY CARED.

I MISSED YOU!! Can't wait for you to come home so we can play. I went on a Maggie and Sarah date all by my lonesome the other day (thrifting, TJ Maxx, fast food) and it wasn't nearly as fun. Although someone did put extra nugs in my nug box. Mmmmm.

In my Human Development and Learning class yesterday we watched a documentary about feral children. I was like...um, I'm an expert. I've watched MANY a documentary about feral children. You know what, I don't think BBC Reveals has done anything about feral kiddies. They should. So we watched this documentary that's in parts on youtube. And I'm definitely going to be reading this and this now. I sense a full blown obsession coming on....

...we were in a car driving to Washington D.C. to watch Obama get inaugurated! Well, I guess by right now we were probably there. Man, a lot can happen in a year. You are in Africa. Which is awesome. BUT I do kind of wish you were still around so we could go on another ridiculous road trip. Complete with costume changes and the newest issue of Cosmo to read out loud.

So I took myself on a date! Eric was on a man date with his man friends.

I saw a movie called The Maid. It was Chilean and actually very good. You should see it when you get home, you'd like it.

Also, there's a new show on called Cougar Town. It sounds awful and it kind of is but it's also hysterical and I'm addicted.

The past three months...

...have been sad! About twelve seconds after Gibson left, I decided I wanted to start a blog. And the desire has only grown over the past couple months. Mostly because every other sentence out of my mouth is "Gibson needs to know this." Like how I felt when Jersey Shore started. And how I felt when I realized The Bachelor was on TV. And how I felt when I found an amazing sequined blazer for $12 at Charlotte Russe (didn't even know that store existed until I found one in South Bend, IN). I felt like YOU NEEDED TO KNOW. Hence, the birth of this blog. It only took me three months to start. BUT I figured better late than never. And I also have discovered a new-found love for blogs. Specifically fashion blogs. I read so many. Gibson--I have so many to show you. You are doing to die. And i figured I like blogs and I love clothes and I love pictures and I figured me and my new blog with pictures and clothes could hold hands and skip harmoniously into the future, camera in hand. So there you have it.

So some of you may be reading this and you don't know who Gibson is. Well, my friend Sarah Gibson is my BFF (CAPITAL LETTERS). She is also working in Kenya until April, 2010. I miss her lots. But more importantly, I know she is wasting away with knowing exactly what I am doing, wearing, saying, eating, listening to, and buying, for SIX WHOLE MONTHS. So these upcoming posts will be playing catch up.

(Side note: Gibson--I'm watching an episode of SVU and Cerie from 30 Rock is the rape victim. Weird.)

Here are some pictures of what Eric and I did yesterday:

We WALKED on the HURON RIVER! (It was frozen.) It was magical. I was a bit terrified and held on to the post of the dock for awhile, but eventually ventured out on to the river. I emerged from the outing mostly unscathed, but did take a spill after attempting to do my new "bring it back" dance that I invented. It is inspired by this new song. I think it's by Lil Wayne. Anyways, the dance consists of a running man type leg action while waving your arms frantically in the air. It's great, you should try it.

Here are some more highlights from this past week:

We watched football! And it was fun! We watched Alabama beat Texas in the BCS championship. And we cheered Ingram on as he barreled his way through the Texas defense to score some points. Also, Ingram is from Flint! Go Michigan! (He's a running back for Alabama.)

I found this when I was out for a walk! (From the looks of all my pictures it looks like I really only go out at night and take pictures of the snow. Which is mostly true.) It looks like a few dogs had a nice rendezvous in this little yard here. Pretty cute.

I assume this person had to settle for an alternate and incorrect spelling of the "new" from 'New Moon' because you had already placed your order months and months ago for your 'New Moon' novelty license plate. Kudos. (I can't believe another Twilight movie came out while you are out of the country. You know the only reason I see that stuff is because of you.)

OH! I made a few New Year's resolutions:

1.) Quit Starbucks. Cold turkey. Same resolution as last year, which failed miserably around March. Same exception clauses as last year: I can have Starbucks if I'm traveling, if someone else buys it for me, or if I REALLLLY want it.

2.) Go back to school. NAILED this one. Started taking a few classes yesterday.

3.) Start a blog. Nailed THIS ONE TOO. Only took me a few weeks. And by a few weeks I mean three months.

4.) Get to the Y at least once this year. I'll let you know as soon as this happens.

Here is a brief Christmas update:

Eric came home to my parents' house with me for two days. We had a snowball fight, built a gingerbread house, slept in, had our own early Christmas, ate a lot, went to a Notre Dame basketball game, and tested out the new sled he got me for Christmas. There are no hills close to my parents' house, so he pulled me down the street on it. It was divine.
